Thomas Nicholas

Manager - Design Engineering 

Thomas Nicholas is the Design Engineering Manager who wears the hats of Head of Design and Chief of Airworthiness for Sikorsky Australia.

Thomas has over 15 years experience in the aviation industry and joined the company in 2016 as the Senior Avionics Engineer and Team Lead and was later appointed the role of Design Engineering Manager in 2018. His responsibilities include oversight of all engineering support activities and project workflow for the Australian Defence Force and Civilian operators, which includes approving aircraft modifications and repairs whilst ensuring that all airworthiness and compliance aspects are met.

Prior to joining Sikorsky Australia Thomas worked with Airbus in Australia and Airbus Head Quarters in France where he began his career working in ground and flight test on ARH Tiger and MRH90 Taipan helicopters before making his way into Design Engineering. Since then Thomas has been involved with and managed a number of military and civilian rotary and fixed wing projects from which he has attained valuable experience throughout his career and gained multiple approvals from recognised National Airworthiness Authorities.

Thomas holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Avionics Aerospace and Computer and Electrical Engineering from the Queensland University of Technology, an Adv diploma in Electronics Engineering and a diploma in Business Management and Marketing.
